Mr. Nolan currently serves as President and CEO of Hugh Johnson Advisors, LLC, an Albany based firm that provides asset and wealth management for institutional clients and high net worth individuals. Additionally, Mr. Nolan is a principal in NPV Capital, LLC, a private equity and real estate investment firm that he formed in 2007. He is affiliated with Mid-Market Securities, a registered broker/dealer and investment bank in New York City. He is a director of Boston Private Financial Holdings, Inc.
Prior to joining Hugh Johnson Advisors, Mr. Nolan was a partner in the Ayco Company, L.P. a wholly owned subsidiary of Goldman Sachs. During his 28 years career at Ayco, he was past regional Vice President of two of Ayco’s regional offices and held a variety of management positions of service management as well as a client advisor, providing tax, investment and financial planning advice to Ayco’s highest net worth clients. He founded and led the firm’s Special Investment Group, creating venture capital, private equity and hedge fund opportunities for the firm’s clients. In 2003, when Ayco was sold to The Goldman Sachs Group, Mr. Nolan became senior vice president for Strategic Alliances and, working from Goldman’s New York City headquarters, led the effort to integrate Ayco into Goldman’s Private Wealth management practice. Renowned for his business expertise, Mr. Nolan is perhaps more known for this work in the Capital Region community. He served as Board Chairman for Albany Law School and the College of Saint Rose; he serves as Trustee for both institutions. He has provided meaningful financial support to, or served as a leader for, several organizations including Albany Medical Center, Capital Bank and Trust, St. Peter’s Health Foundation, Center for Disability Services, University at Albany and Community Foundation for the Capital Region. He is also passionate about helping our youth, selflessly making time in his busy schedule to guide and assist them as they contemplate their future.
In recognition of his leadership and service, Mr. Nolan has received awards such as Albany Law School’s Distinguished Service Award in 1992, the Hudson Mohawk Association of Colleges Community Service Award in 2003, the Community of Excellence Award in 2013, the President’s Spirit of Saint Rose Award in 2014, and UAlbany’s Citizen Laureate Award in 2014, among others. A proud alumnus of UAlbany, Mr. Nolan received his degree in Business Administration in 1974 and went on to receive his Juris Doctor degree from Albany Law School in 1978, and received an Honorary Doctorate from Saint Rose in 2014. He and his wife, Sally, reside in Loudonville, and together have two children who live in New York City.
