ASSISTANT COACH OF THE YEAR AWARD ANNOUNCED
Les Moss Recognized for Part in Building an Empire
ALBANY, NY - The Arena Football League today announced the Assistant Coach of the Year award was given to Les Moss, Assistant Head Coach for the Albany Empire. This is Moss’s first Assistant Coach of the Year Award and recognizes his significant contributions to the overall coaching efforts with the Albany Empire this season.
Moss serves as the Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the Albany Empire. His play calling abilities helped Albany achieve League bests in total offense, scoring offense and touchdowns scored (88). His leadership was revealed as six of his offense players received First Team All-Arena accolades, with Malachi Jones (WR) also earning Receiver of the Year.
His duties extend beyond successfully coaching his offense and touch many areas of the overall football operations efforts. Moss also coordinates the logistics for all away games throughout the season and assists in the process of recruiting and signing players to the Empire’s team.
Moss is an important part of a cornerstone Empire coaching staff and has developed a unique AFL coaching background over the years. He began coaching in the AFL in 1989 and has since been part of four ArenaBowl Champion teams (1990, 1998,2000 and 2011). Most Notably from 2010-2016, Moss served as the Head Coach for the Jacksonville Sharks and compiled a 77-54 record (.588 winning percentage), including an ArenaBowl championship in 2011. Moss won the Head Coach of the Year Award in 2010.
Moss, alongside the leadership of Empire Head Coach Rob Keefe, heads home to Albany to host the Philadelphia Soul in ArenaBowl 32, this Sunday, August 11, at Times Union Center. The 2019 AFL championship game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2 at 8pm ET.
